DESCRIPTION:In partnership with the City of Burnaby\, we are proud to bring you this meaningful event - Building Indigenous Partnerships: An Inclusive Economic Future on Thursday\, September 24\, in advance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.This event will feature a keynote presentation\, a facilitated discussion\, and networking component to foster listening\, learning\, and dialogue.We invite you to join us and First Nations Financial Management Board CEO Scott Munro for a compelling keynote: Building Indigenous Partnerships: An Inclusive Economic Future.Scott's speech will look beyond the current headlines to explore the broader context shaping First Nations non-Indigenous relationships and will empower you to consider what your role can be in advancing meaningful reconciliation. Scott's address will be grounded in both history and forward-looking insights\, highlighting practical ways business and communities can work together to build stronger partnerships and a more inclusive economic future that benefits all British Columbians. In Coast Salish Culture\, the hummingbird is a symbol of peace\, love\, and healing. It teaches us to appreciate the miracles of life and encourages us to focus on positivity amidst challenges. By embodying the spirit of joy and resilience\, the hummingbird serves as a messenger\, bridging the human and spirit worlds. Reminding us that comfort and healing are always within reach.Ryan Johnston\, an interdisciplinary artist and athlete of mixed Sḵwx̱w 7mesh and Celtic descent\, merges traditional Coast Salish artistry with contemporary expressions. His work is deeply rooted in the stories and traditions of the Sḵwx̱w 7mesh community\, and he draws inspiration from the natural world and they dynamic movements within it. Ryan's passion for both art and extreme sports reflects his commitment to creating positive change within his community and informs his visions for reconciliation through this design.\nWe respectfully acknowledge that the City of Burnaby is located on the unceded territories of the xʷmə kʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Sḵwx̱w 7mesh (Squamish)\, səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)\, and kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem) Peoples. Scott works closely with the Board of Directors to advance the FMB's mission and strategic objectives\, bringing over 20 years of finance and leadership experience from both the private and public sector. Scott is currently Chair of the Canadian Public Sector Accounting Board's Indigenous Advisory Group and is active in building partnerships with professional organizations to promote reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. Scott also serves on the board of the B.C. Financial Services Authority\, the Crown corporation that regulates financial institutions and professionals to protect consumers and support B.C.'s prosperity. Scott has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Queen's University and FCPA\, FCA\, and CAFM designations.
